Euron wins the throne over his brother and to restore the glory of the Krakens, begins raiding the coast near Highgarden and sends the Tyrells in King’s Landing into a fit. Asha fears for her life and ends up captured by Stannis to be reunited with Theon (that will have to be altered, it seems). Honestly, scrapping the Kingsmoot altogether and replacing it with someone more exciting would be fantastic, though what they tried to do with Dorne was an abject failure and one of the worst periods in the show’s history, so I should be careful what I wish for, I suppose.ĭespite its dull beginning, I’ve argued that the Iron Islands plotline does have to be included in the show due to its rather explosive conclusion. To make her essentially one of the main characters of their plotline would be quite the upgrade for her.Īnd yet, knowing what the show did with the Dorne plotline, inserting Jaime and Bronn there which was a dramatic departure from the books, it’s possible they have something similar planned for the Iron Islands. ![]() She’s been one of the characters that the show seems like it’s simply forgotten about like poor Berric Dondarrion or Gendry in his rowboat. She famously only appeared once in season four for an ill-fated raid to free Theon from Ramsay, and disappeared entirely in season five I believe. I also wonder how significant a role Asha will play in the Iron Islands plotline. Either way, Asbæk’s age seems dramatically off for the role, so something is amiss here. This suggests to me that unless they're simply saying Balon had a brother 40 years younger than him, perhaps they’re changing his family status (a cousin, perhaps, not an uncle?) or maybe they’re retconning in some new brothers for Theon, which would make the least amount of sense. Ian McShane, at 72, seemed more likely to fit in one of the brother roles, but now Asbæk is the first actor confirmed to have one of the parts. It seems more than a little strange that he would be playing younger brother to Balon Greyjoy, played by 70 year old actor Patrick Malahide. Asbæk is 33 years old, but looks even younger. With the casting of Asbæk, however, I don’t know what to think. ![]() The two brothers vie for the right to be king of the Iron Islands, and Theon’s sister Asha demands she be considered as a possible Queen as well, given Theon’s absence. ![]() Another brother is a priest, Aeron Damphair, who has no eyes for the throne, but the other is Victarion, Euron’s younger brother and commander of the royal fleet. In the books, Euron is one of three brothers who returns to the Iron Island when Balon Greyjoy falls to his death from a bridge during a storm. To further discuss the Iron Islands, show and book spoilers must follow. Asbæk will be relatively unknown to most, but he starred in the Danish TV series Borgen opposite Birgitte Hjort Sørensen, who Game of Thrones fans will likely remember as the doomed wildling mother from late last season. Described as a “pirate who terrorized the world," it seems he has a big part to play in season six. The show has just cast Pilou Asbæk as Euron Greyjoy, brother of King Balon Greyjoy and Theon and Asha’s uncle.
